A considered display begins with the object, not the shelf. Before deciding where to place a piece, take time to understand its dimensions, weight and any display or care guidance supplied with it.

Start with a secure setting
Choose a stable, level surface that can safely support the piece. Keep it away from edges, busy walkways and places where it could be knocked. If a stand or mounting system is needed, use one suited to the object and follow the relevant installation instructions.
Choose a clear focal point
Give each arrangement one place for the eye to begin. This might be the largest object, a distinctive silhouette or a detail you particularly enjoy. Position neighbouring pieces so they support that focal point rather than compete with it.
You do not need perfect symmetry. A little variation in height or spacing can create a more relaxed composition. Step back and look at the arrangement from the positions where you will actually see it: a doorway, a chair or the far side of the room.
Work with light and space
Test the display under the lighting you use every day. Avoid placing lights where they create unwanted glare or heat. Keep the object's care requirements in mind, and do not assume that every material is suited to the same conditions.
Leave room for change
A collection does not have to appear all at once. Rotating a few pieces can make familiar objects feel newly present. Keep any stored pieces protected according to their individual care guidance.
The aim is a display you can enjoy comfortably: secure, uncluttered and attentive to what makes each object interesting.
